Fighting battles already won…
Have you ever read a book of the Bible for the 5th or so time and wondered “How did I not notice this gold mine before now?!
Thats been how I’ve felt this last month studying through the book of Joshua with the help of David Guzik’s resources.
The concepts in Joshua are so compelling and intriguing that I have been looking forward to sharing them with you for quite a while now
The commentary style sermon by David Guzik on Joshua 7 was such an incredible sermon about finances I’m linking it below to share with you, but
the most compelling financial concept was an over-arching theme throughout …
Over and over again we see God’s miracles and Joshua’s action.
Not once did Joshua sit back and “let God do what only he can do”.
Even when God told him the victory was his, Joshua STILL made excellent battle plans/strategies and gave it his very best effort. “Leaving nothing undone…”
Interesting right?
How often in our financial lives do we neglect to take action and make wise plans because “God provides” or because “his mercies are new every morning”?
Ooof!
In the same way we see again and again how God GIVES them lands/territories, inheritance they’ve been promised to receive for generations- and all they have to do is TAKE IT! It’s theirs, God told them He would enable them to! And yet they neglect to take all that God had ALREADY GIVEN THEM because the battles they would need to fight to gain their inheritance seemed too hard. Oh boy… see where I’m going with this??
What if God has ALREADY GIVEN us freedom through Christ to conquer that mountain of debt and we are simply neglecting to fight the hard battle to take hold of what he’s already given us?
What if God has ALREADY GIVEN us freedom through Christ to make more income and we have simply neglected to put in the long hard work to take hold of what he’s already given us? Joshua spent 5-7 years taking the promised land!
Any other things come to mind?
It truly was an inspiring study with SO MANY things that pointed to Jesus and so many practical lessons! If you are wanting to start studying the Bible deeper and be challenged to grow in your walk with Christ I highly recommend doing this study!
