For the Kids!

I have to admit…

the first time I tried to teach my kiddo about how to handle his money I was PUMPED about it… I had 3 little jars marked “Tithe”, “Save”, and “Spend” and was so excited to teach him all I knew about how to be generous and save for the future…

And it ended in tears and frustration.

I felt that I must be horrible with Kids and/or my kid has somehow become a greedy, selfish, spender.

To be honest… a little of both was true, but the biggest problem was that I had gone into it a little too flippantly and didn’t really have a good fun! plan in place.

FAST FORWARD 3 years…

My boys are now 5 & 8 and for the sake of teaching them how to handle money… I decided to start giving them both allowances -with a catch…

Catch is, they only get the allowance if they budget it.

They still get a lot of freedom within their budget, they get to choose where and when to give, what to save for, when and what to enjoy, and there’s even a play aspect as well as a few other things that make the “less fun” parts of money, a little more bearable for those “Big Feelings” kids.

My kids (even the one that tends to drag his feet about EVERYTHING new) went into this SO EXCITED.

I couldn’t get all the pieces created quickly enough for them!

Want to know what we did?

I’ll lay it all out for ya!

Step One: Asked my Kiddos which color of these was their favorite

By Amazon

These binders come in tons of different colors and are often on sale! Click the here to see them all.

(Thankyou for purchasing through this link to support this little ministry!)

Step 2: I created and printed off these inserts of corresponding color to their binders.

I’ve included 5 pages of instructions, ideas, and examples for you in order for you to be able to set it up in a way that works best for your family.

One good “arts and crafts session” later we had everything put together,

Mailboxes, envelopes, a “banker” aka me! (for splitting money, helping log transactions, and accepting bills)

Now, once a week, Saturday Mornings work great for us, the boys get their allowance,

split it into the envelopes,

log their transactions ,

and

pay bills -which also earns them screentime!

It’s been the highlight of the week for a few weeks now, and I’m looking forward to the convesations it will bring to the table about money.

Hope this idea serves you well!
