The distraction of “end times”…
I don’t know about you but I’ve been hearing a ton about “End times prophecies” lately - even from those people who all shooed their hands at that just a few years ago, saying it is “compeletly unknown”
It’s left me thinking. ok, so what if it IS near (shouldn’t we be living like it’s always near anyway?)
the truth of the matter is, that being convinced the “end is near” doesn’t matter if it doesn’t convince us to love with all we’ve got.
If being convinced that Jesus is returning soon invokes in us the idea that we need to convince everyone he’s coming “soon”, but not that we need to take a look at our OWN LIVES and ask God how we can love him and love others fully, then I fear we have focused on the wrong thing.
If Jesus is coming soon (and even if he’s not) we need to LOVE with all we’ve got. Because let’s be real, none of us truly know whether we even have another hour.
So how then should we live?
Be Wise.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart (keep the first thing the first thing)
Love others like God loves you.
Walk in humble obedience to the Lord.
Speak truth with love.
Living life this way day-to-day is living a life that will have no true regrets, whether Jesus returns in an hour or 60 years.
So the next time people bring up the end times to you (whether they think it’s soon or not) simply ask,
“In light of that belief, how are you going to live now?”
Lovingly help them draw their attention back onto how then we should live.
All in.
Loving deeply.
Running our race with wisdom, humility, and perseverance.
What does this have to do with money you may ask?
Because loving others deeply, living humbly before the Lord invokes a courageous generosity that most certainly affects the way we handle the money God has placed in our hands.
If the end is near (or even if it’s not) how can we be fully, all-in, Loving the Lord and others with tangible resources?
